A small sculptural shell form with the softly weathered character of something discovered at the water’s edge.
A one-of-a-kind ceramic piece inspired by shells, fragments and naturally worn forms gathered along the shoreline.
Tidal Fragment has a gently enclosed, shell-like shape with softly folded edges and a warm sandstone finish. Created from a smoother clay body than its companion piece, additional texture has been worked into the surface to give it the same sense of age, erosion and coastal weathering.
A reactive pearlescent glaze settles across the interior, revealing subtle flashes of pink, blue and iridescence as the light moves over it. Against the sandy exterior, the effect feels almost nacreous, reminiscent of the inside of a shell exposed after years beneath the sea.
Functional as well as sculptural, it makes a beautiful little home for jewellery, rings, trinkets, soap or other treasured objects, while remaining striking enough to be displayed simply as a small piece of coastal art.
Companion piece
Selected photographs show Tidal Fragment alongside its larger companion piece, Tidal Relic.
Made from sand-enriched clay with a much rougher, fossil-like surface, Tidal Relic shares the same sandstone and pearlescent palette while having a more dramatic, crustacean-inspired form. Together, the two pieces explore different textures and shapes found along the shoreline.
Both are one-of-a-kind pieces and are sold individually.
